TYPES OF WOOL

Carded Sliver- Corriedale Sliver, British Slivers

Carded sliver is a continuous, untwisted rope of wool fibres that have been cleaned and carded. The fibres are arranged in multiple directions, making them easy to pull apart into small sections and ideal for wrapping around armatures.

Because the fibres are short and randomly aligned, carded sliver felts quickly and efficiently. Its bulky structure makes it perfect for building volume and shaping larger forms before adding finer details.

Suitable for both needle felting and wet felting, carded sliver is an excellent choice for creating core shapes, sculptures, and projects that require fast felting.

Wool Tops - Corriedale Wool Tops

Wool tops, often referred to as roving, consist of smooth, soft fibres that are carefully aligned in one direction. This parallel fibre arrangement creates a clean, even texture and produces a smooth finish, making wool tops ideal for adding fine details and surface colour to felting projects.

As the fibres are more organised than carded sliver, wool tops generally take longer to felt. However, they offer excellent control and a refined appearance, making them particularly popular for detailed work and decorative finishes.

Suitable for both needle felting and wet felting, wool tops are especially well suited to wet felting, where their smooth fibres help create strong, even felt with a professional finish.

Merino Wool

Our Merino wool is mulesing-free and ethically sourced, offering a high-quality fibre that is both soft and versatile. Its fine texture makes it a pleasure to work with and suitable for a wide range of felting projects.

Merino wool creates a smooth, refined finish and is ideal for adding colour, detail, and surface layers to felted work. For larger 3D projects, it is often used over a base of core wool or carded sliver to build shape and structure while keeping the finished piece lightweight and soft.

Available in a wide range of colours, Merino wool can be easily blended to create custom shades and effects, either by hand or using hand carders. Suitable for both needle felting and wet felting, it is a favourite choice for beginners and experienced makers alike.

Wool Locks

Wool locks are individual curls of wool that retain their natural shape, making them perfect for adding texture, character, and visual interest to felting and fibre art projects. They can be used to create realistic fur, hair, fleece, beards, and decorative surface effects.

To preserve their beautiful natural curls, wool locks are gently washed rather than heavily processed. As a result, they may occasionally contain small amounts of vegetable matter, which is a normal characteristic of this type of fibre.

Suitable for both needle felting and wet felting, wool locks are a wonderful way to introduce texture and movement to your creations while celebrating the natural beauty of the fleece.
